Cassie came to us heartworm positive and a chronic right tarsal fracture. Both are being treated through OSU Veterinary Hospital.
Cassie has months of treatments in front of her. She doesn't know she's sick though. She's sweet and at times she's even a little bossy. Barking orders at her foster mom that's it's time to eat!
Currently Cassie doesn't use her injured leg much, but she's on pain medication so it doesn't seem to bother her much. She has been given the OK by OSU Cardiology to have the surgery on her leg in three weeks prior to starting injections for her heartworms.
Mid January she'll receive the first injection of melarsomine to kill the heartworms. Her remaining injections for the heartworm treatment will be 6 weeks later.
After all that, she'll be spayed and have a dental. So it will be awhile before Cassie will be ready to her forever home, but she's a very sweet little girl that is well worth the wait!
We have not cat tested Cassie yet.
